DR. GHEORGHE PREDA PSYCHIATRY HOSPITAL/SIBIU/ROMANIA

Our participatory media education project involves also kids in hospitals, that is why our film making activity also takes place in pediatric hospitals all around the world.

The starting point of the production are the pediatric hospitals hidden somewhere in Dracula's country: Transylvania!

Our first medical collaborator in Transylvania is the DR GHEORGHE PREDA PSYCHIATRY HOSPITAL in Sibiu, Romania.

Raluca Isac is the educational assistant of the Children Rehabilitation Department at the Dr Gheorghe Preda Hospital in Hermannstadt. Her reason for getting involved 2030, WHENiGROWUP is to find below:

In my childhood I looked at my teacher and I told myself that someday I'll become a teacher, to work on the harmonious development of other children. I was fascinated – I still am – about the idea of having in my hands souls to efficiently shape and prepare them for life.

That day has come and I have been working for ten years on “shaping” average two thousand “souls”. I work daily to develop cognitive, physical, emotional and social development of children and adolescents with special needs in the Psycho-Neuro-Motor Children Rehabilitation Department of “Psychiatric Hospital”of Sibiu.

Soon, I realized that these children are a true creative force, inventive and often original in what they do.

From the very beginning I felt that they are willing to give much affection , being in turn emotional absorbing souls. I realize every day that they create invisible emotional bonds between them and between them and me. These are deep feelings that last.

Observing their behavior I understood that for making a small step further it takes determination, courage, self confidence, hard work and not the least positive thinking.

I just love their happy faces and their curious glimpse, like asking: “ what are we going to create today? What are we going to learn ?”

All I have to do is to observe, to listen, to understand their needs, to give them guidance, affection and feedback of their work.

From here to the creative act it takes only a step. That is: to give them an opportunity to express themselves, a safety and calm climate, the materials they need, and guidance.

I thank them for their sincere smiles and hugs.

Knowing all these how could I not be part of the “2030, WHENiGROWUP” project? They move for those who have faith and act upon it.
